I first joined Featherstone Rovers 2 years ago, since then I have been involved in community development work mainly within Junior Schools inspiring the young children to strive to better their lifestyles. Working with the children we cover a wide variety of topics including Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles as well as the most obvious, Rugby Coaching. Other work within the community involves promoting our upcoming games. We also deliver Multi-Sport Skills to adults with learning difficulties, a project that I find particularly rewarding.

I am currently in the process of completing a Personal Training Qualification based at Featherstone Rovers and supported by the GMB Union. I have also been running my own renewable energy business for the last year or so, selling and installing Wind Turbines.

I have been a professional Rugby League player since 2003, playing for St Helens, Hull KR and Widnes Vikings before signing for Featherstone Rovers.

Since the beginning of 2009, I have been a part of the Featherstone Rovers Community Team. In this time I have been involved in a wide range of community initiatives including:

  • Girls' Tag Rugby - Coaching/Tournaments
  • PCT Healthy Lifestyle Programme - "Kick It"
  • Sports Leaders Course
  • ESP Playground Markings Course
  • Adults (16+) Touch Rugby Sessions
  • Multi-Sports sessions for Adults with learning Difficulties
  • Dinner-time touch rugby within High Schools
  • High School presentations about Professional Rugby League

I find working within the community very rewarding, in particular, taking Adults with learning difficulties for Sports Sessions.

I am currently starting a new role at the club in which I will be assisting in the development of Junior Players and in particular, players who will be undertaking the AASE (Advanced Apprenticeship of Sporting Excellence) programme.

Community Development Apprentice

I started at Featherstone Rovers in September of 2011 and since then i've been working with the rest of the team in schools and the general community promoting such topics as Health Living to young children.

I've also been working with Adults with Learning Difficulties weekly, engaging them in touch and pass rugby, structured ball control sequences and basic development of their rugby skills and coordination.
